The Dark Carnival
The Dark Carnival is shrouded in mystery. It starts with music. sweet chimes that entice the local residents of the latest city to be enshrouded by their seductive cloak of nightmares. As the locals move towards the music, they begin to see the peaks of tents swirling with a cosmos of colors and gleaming lights. They enter the carnival and take part in the festivities, woes and troubles melt away. Like a panacea, the euphoric experience becomes addictive, pulling at them to return and stay even if they manage to depart. More and more individuals attend the carnival. Before it's realized, the number of tents becomes stifling. The acts grow. And when the curtain descends, the city vanishes. Its residents, never to be seen again. This phenomenon occurs across multiple words to countless species. The Carnival does not distinguish; it does not lament over its next showing. The only objective is that the Grinning Baron keeps grinning.
